The program is 47 weeks in length, including an 330-hour practicum with on-the-job training, which will take place offsite with potential employers.

Our Orthopaedic Technician Diploma program covers areas such as: the fundamentals of orthopaedic care, fractures, treatments and rehabilitation, splinting, casting, wound care, medical terminology, how to use orthopaedic equipment and appliances, and interpersonal skills and patient care. It provides a balance between theoretical instruction and hands-on training in our state-of-the-art laboratory. During your clinical labs, you will learn how to cast and splint, gain an understanding of how to operate and adjust traction equipment, crutches, walkers, and other aides.

As an orthopaedic technician, you will work directly with orthopaedic surgeons and apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients. In addition, you will observe, monitor, report, and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe, effective and quality care and support.

Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

The overall program goals and objectives are aligned with Sonography Canada’s National Competency Profile Version 6.0.

Sonography is a regulated profession in Ontario under the guidance of the CMRITO – College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (www.cmrito.org).

Upon successful completion of this program students will also be eligible to challenge the American Registry Exam for the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)

330-HOUR PRACTICUM

Gain real-time knowledge and best practices onsite from our industry-expert instructors and offsite through a practicum with Orthopaedic Technician employers.

The program at Anderson College provides a balance of both theory and hands-on experience. During your clinical labs, you will learn how to cast and splint, gain an understanding of how to operate and adjust traction equipment, crutches, walkers, and other aides. In the Patient Care course, you will learn how to provide instructions to patients.
