Our Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker program is designed to teach students the necessary practical skills and theory to work with adolescents, children and families with challenging social, emotional, behavioral and mental health concerns and needs.
Curriculum will cover areas such as: child and adolescent development, cultural awareness and sensitivity, family ties, mental health practices, child prevention intervention, group work, activity programming, indigenous children’s programs, after school programs, intro to technology, interpersonal communication and much more.
The Addictions Support modules explore the physical, emotional and social effects of alcohol, drugs and gambling, examine the process of addictions assessment and teach effective case management skills.

In the role of Child & Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker you will work closely with children, adolescents and families as they face social, emotional, behavioural and mental health concerns and provide support for their needs. You provide counsel and support, and develop strategies to foster healthy child development, address family dynamics and addiction.

The overall program goals and objectives are aligned with Sonography Canada’s National Competency Profile Version 6.0.
Sonography is a regulated profession in Ontario under the guidance of the CMRITO – College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (www.cmrito.org).
Upon successful completion of this program students will also be eligible to challenge the American Registry Exam for the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)

Monica has been a Registered Nurse since 2004 and has since worked in both hospital and community settings. Throughout her nursing career she has provided health education and nursing care, engaged in research activities, and delivered supportive counselling and life skills programming.
Monica received her RN Diploma from Durham College before going on to achieve a BSc in Nursing from York University. She also holds a BA in Sociology from York University.

The program is 43 weeks in length, including an 9-week practicum with on-the-job training, which will take place offsite with potential employers. It is a comprehensive program with learning outcomes aligned to the Canadian Pharmacy Technician Educators Association (CPTEA), and the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) competencies.
The program includes a 9-week clinical practicum period as well as a well-rounded combination of in-class instructions and rigorous laboratory practice to ensure you are professionally competent to enter the profession and build a rewarding career.
